Chair-O-Plane (Swing ride)

Welcome to try a swing ride with roots in 1930s England! This Chair O Plane was built in 1935 and is an unusually well-preserved example from the early days of fairgrounds. It is believed to have started as a so-called “Dobbies” carousel with small carved horses before being converted into the chair swing ride you see today.

After careful restoration, the ride has regained its original character. It continues to spin and is enjoyed by both children and adults. Take a seat and follow the motion while getting a sense of the craftsmanship behind traditional English fairgrounds.

All decoration is hand-painted, from signs to detailed motifs. This follows the tradition of “signwriting”, which was a natural part of fairgrounds when the ride was first built. These handcrafted details give it a lively character that makes the experience feel something special.
