Gothenburg Culture Festival is certified as a Sustainable Event

We want to be more than just a festival; we aim to contribute to and inspire positive development in our city and the planet we live on. For us, sustainability means actively working with all three dimensions of sustainability: ecological, social, and economic.

Each year, we certify the festival as a “Sustainable Event” through Greentime. This sets the bar high and means we must place demands not only on ourselves but also on our partners.

Paving the way for single-use-free events

Gothenburg Culture Festival works actively to reduce emissions and inspire the industry, visitors and other stakeholders to make more sustainable choices. An important part of this work is our commitment to waste-free serving, to avoid single-use items.

Diverse, gender equal and accessible to all

The festival’s program must have a broad representation and reflect society. We will create meeting places where people can meet and discover new parts of the city. No one shall be excluded because of gender, ethnicity, functionality, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or gender identity expression, religion or age.

A Safe Festival Experience

Gothenburg Culture Festival aims to ensure that all visitors and participants feel safe and respected during the festival. As part of this effort, this years staff was educated in active bystandership with the help of the organization Dare to Care – an initiative working to prevent sexual assault in the event industry. Dare to Care was also present at the festival to inform visitors on how they themselves could contribute to a safer festival environment.

From linear to circular

The ambition for Gothenburg Culture Festival is to become more circular. This includes, reused textiles, ban on plastic, and reusing or renting instead of buying.

Our focus forward is to work more with circularity. With that long term aspiration, we can approach the goals regarding sustainable growth and climate neutral events set by the City of Gothenburg. That way Gothenburg Culture Festival can take on leadership in sustainable events.
