Gothenburg city festival adds more artists – Maya Diab, Sarah Klang with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, A-Teens, Streaplers and Yttling Jazz confirmed

Gothenburg’s city festival is expanding its music programme for this year’s festivities.
The festival’s main stage at Götaplatsen will now host Lebanese star Maya Diab, Sarah Klang together with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, and A-Teens. They are joined by Streaplers, performing on the dance stage in Bältespännarparken, and newly crowned Grammis winners Yttling Jazz, who will appear on the stage at Kungstorget.

Gothenburg’s city festival takes place this year from 27 to 30 August.

In addition to Miriam Bryant, Teddybears, Sahara Hotnights and Arvingarna performing at Götaplatsen — which makes a comeback this summer as the festival’s largest stage — it is now confirmed that they will be joined by Maya Diab, Sarah Klang with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, and A-Teens.

At the same time, the stage at Kungstorget can present another prominent booking: Yttling Jazz.

With increased funding, Gothenburg’s city festival 2026 is expanding. The festival will take up more space in the city centre — from Götaplatsen and Avenyn to Bältespännarparken, Kungstorget, Grönsakstorget and Kungsparken. The entire upper Avenyn area will be closed to traffic during the festival days. Restaurants and bars will move out into the streets, creating a vibrant meeting place before and after the concerts.

New for this year is a dedicated space for dance in Bältespännarparken, where Streaplers will perform on the dance floor and where visitors can try a variety of dance styles, from bugg to Bollywood, as well as enjoy dance performances. Local vendors will also be on site offering food and drink.

Grönsakstorget will likewise showcase local talent, where audiences can discover new bands and artists — straight from the garage or rehearsal room to the stage. The initiative is part of an effort to give more emerging acts the opportunity to be seen and heard in a larger context.

Gothenburg’s city festival takes place 27–30 August, with the programme being released on an ongoing basis. The festival is free and open to everyone.

ARTISTS

Maya Diab
Maya Diab is one of the Arab world’s most iconic and influential pop stars, known for her strong stage presence, distinctive style and versatile artistic career. Through her success in music, television and entertainment, she has become a symbol of modern Arab pop culture and one of the region’s most recognised female artists. Her concerts combine energy, elegance and world-class production, creating unforgettable experiences for audiences of all ages.

Sarah Klang and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra
Sarah Klang once again takes to the stage with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Christoffer Nobin. The concert will be an exclusive performance featuring rarely performed material alongside the artist’s most beloved songs, arranged by Martin Schaub. In collaboration with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Sweden’s National Orchestra, Sarah Klang captivates audiences with her distinctive voice, moving lyrics and warm humour.

A-Teens
The pop phenomenon A-Teens — consisting of Marie Serneholt, Sara Lumholdt, Dhani Lennevald and Amit Paul — celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2024, marking the occasion with a widely acclaimed comeback as an interval act at Melodifestivalen, performing a much-talked-about medley. This year, they returned to Melodifestivalen as competitors with the song “Iconic”, which has become a major hit. With their ABBA interpretations, the quartet quickly became a global sensation, touring worldwide — including with Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears — and selling more than two million copies of their 1999 debut album The ABBA Generation.

Yttling Jazz
Most people associate Björn Yttling with his success as a songwriter and producer within indie, pop and rock (including Lykke Li, Peter Bjorn and John, Primal Scream and Chrissie Hynde), but his career actually began in jazz, and he studied privately with none other than Esbjörn Svensson. Last year’s Illegal Hit, the first Yttling Jazz album in 20 years, went straight to number one on the Swedish jazz chart and has recently also won a Grammis award.

Streaplers
A dance band that has been entertaining audiences since 1959. The band, originally from Kungälv, started out as a pop group and gained early attention — including performing as a support act for The Beatles in 1964. Since then, Streaplers have become an established name within the Swedish dance band scene. With a broad repertoire spanning dance band, pop and rock, they have had several songs on the Svensktoppen chart over the years, including “Valentino” and “Till min kära”.
